May we be the voices that offer him mercy when he messes up and kindness when he takes risks. May our awe of God’s creation create space for his imagination. May our actions teach him to abide in Christ and not strive. May our words model listening more than speaking, then provoke him to speak out of the intimate place of hearing. May he see us relinquish bitterness, let God be justice, and forgive like we forgive. May he pick up where we left off, not pick up after us. And may he learn from us to regard human failure as a reason to find hope, instead of a reason to echo hate sourced from our own caves.
